Duration: 7-8 h Round-trip on foot

Trailhead: Lake Minnewanka parking lot, from the Lake Minnewanka Road

This trail is considered difficult mainly due to its length. The first 7.8 km is mostly easy and flat apart the little uphill to the Lake Minnewanka viewpoint, past the Stewart Creek bridge. From the Aylmer Pass junction, it is a steep uphill to the Aylmer Lookout junction. From there, it is another strenuous climb to the final destination. The entire Lake Minnewanka can almost be seen from the lookout.
Highlights: Stewart Canyon, Lake Minnewanka, Wildflowers (end of June to late July).

Please note that there is a seasonal trail restriction on the Lake Minnewanka shoreline trail from July 10 to September 15. Hikers and backpackers must hike in tight group of 4 or more and carry bear spray at all times. Bikes and dogs are not permitted on the trail during the restriction. The LM8 campground is also closed. See details on Parks Canada website.

Season: Late June to late October
